Responsible Gambling
Last updated: 7 October 2026
Betting should be entertainment, not a way to make money or solve money problems. If it stops being fun, stop. This page explains the warning signs, the tools that can help, and where to get support.
18+ only
You must be 18 or older to bet. In Nigeria, regulators such as the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority state that persons under 18 must not take part in any betting, gambling or lottery activity. If you are a parent, use device parental controls and blocking tools (see below).
Warning signs to look out for
- Betting more than you planned, or more than you can afford to lose.
- Chasing losses: betting again to “win it back”.
- Borrowing money, using rent, school fees or savings to bet.
- Hiding your betting from family or friends, or lying about it.
- Feeling anxious, irritable or low when you are not betting.
- Neglecting work, studies or family because of betting.
- Thinking betting is a way out of debt.
If one or more of these sounds familiar, it is a good time to pause and talk to someone.
Practical ways to stay in control
- Set a budget first. Decide what you can afford to lose before you start, and never go above it.
- Use deposit limits. Most licensed operators let you set daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits in your account settings. Check your operator’s responsible gaming section.
- Set time limits and reality checks. Many operators offer session reminders. You can also set a phone timer.
- Take a break (time-out). Operators often allow short cooling-off periods of a day to several weeks.
- Self-exclude. If you need a longer break, ask the operator to close or block your account for months or years. Ask their support team what options they offer.
- Block betting sites. Free tools such as BetBlocker block gambling websites on your devices.
- Never bet when stressed, drunk or upset, and do not treat bonuses as free money; always read the terms.
- Bet only with licensed operators. In Lagos you can check whether an operator is licensed on the LSLGA licence checker.
