FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers Table – Final Standings
The South American section is the one most fans mean by the World Cup 2026 qualifiers table, because all ten CONMEBOL nations played each other home and away in a single league of 18 rounds. This is the final table after the last round on 9 September 2025.
| Pos | Team | Pld | Pts | GD | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Argentina | 18 | 38 | +21 | Qualified |
| 2 | Ecuador | 18 | 29 | +9 | Qualified |
| 3 | Colombia | 18 | 28 | +10 | Qualified |
| 4 | Uruguay | 18 | 28 | +10 | Qualified |
| 5 | Brazil | 18 | 28 | +7 | Qualified |
| 6 | Paraguay | 18 | 28 | +4 | Qualified |
| 7 | Bolivia | 18 | 20 | −18 | Play-off (eliminated) |

| 9 | Peru | 18 | 12 | −15 | Eliminated |
| 10 | Chile | 18 | 11 | −18 | Eliminated |
Ecuador started on minus three points as a sanction from the Byron Castillo eligibility case, so 29 points still left them a clear second. Four teams finished on 28 points, separated only by goal difference. Bolivia beat Suriname 2–1 in the play-off semi-final but lost 2–1 to Iraq in the final on 31 March 2026.
Key summary:
- Hosts (automatic): Canada, Mexico, United States.
- Places per confederation: UEFA 16, CAF 9 + 1 play-off, AFC 8 + 1 play-off, CONMEBOL 6 + 1 play-off, CONCACAF 3 + 2 play-off, OFC 1 + 1 play-off.
- Total: 45 qualifying places + 3 hosts = 48 teams.

For full match-by-match detail, use the official FIFA World Cup 2026 hub. The cleanest approach is to combine sources: FIFA for official standings and confirmed qualifiers, the confederation sites (CONMEBOL, CAF, UEFA) for group tables, and one live-score service such as ChampSquads scores and fixtures for minute-by-minute results. If two sources disagree, trust FIFA.
How to Read the World Cup Qualifiers Points Table
Every qualifiers standings table uses the same columns. Pld is matches played, Pts is points (three for a win, one for a draw) and GD is goal difference, which is goals scored minus goals conceded. When teams finish level on points, goal difference usually separates them first, then goals scored, then head-to-head results. That is why Colombia, Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay all finished on 28 points but in a set order.
We use three status labels in every table on this page. Qualified means the team earned a place at the finals. Play-off means the team got a second chance through a play-off. Eliminated means the campaign is over. A team that reached a play-off and lost is shown as play-off (eliminated), as with Bolivia and Nigeria.
One warning: some sites still show old live tables with games in hand or provisional points. Point deductions changed the final order in two sections: Ecuador in South America and South Africa in Africa. Always check the date on any table, and treat the official FIFA and confederation figures as the final word.
World Cup 2026 Qualifiers Table by Confederation
UEFA (Europe): 16 places
The 12 group winners qualified directly: Germany (A), Switzerland (B), Scotland (C), France (D), Spain (E), Portugal (F), Netherlands (G), Austria (H), Norway (I), Belgium (J), England (K) and Croatia (L). The 12 runners-up and four Nations League group winners then played a 16-team play-off. On 31 March 2026 UEFA confirmed the final four: Bosnia and Herzegovina (Path A), Sweden (Path B), Türkiye (Path C) and Czechia (Path D). Erling Haaland was top scorer across all qualifying with 16 goals. Spain and England also feature in our England vs Spain prediction.
CAF (Africa): 9 direct places + 1 play-off
Nine group winners qualified: Egypt (A), Senegal (B), South Africa (C), Cape Verde (D), Morocco (E), Ivory Coast (F), Algeria (G), Tunisia (H) and Ghana (I). This is the World Cup qualifying table, not the AFCON group table. The two competitions are separate. Group C is the one Nigerian fans checked most.
| Pos | Team | Pld | GD | Pts | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | South Africa | 10 | +6 | 18 | Qualified |
| 2 | Nigeria | 10 | +7 | 17 | CAF play-off (eliminated) |
| 3 | Benin | 10 | +1 | 17 | Eliminated |
| 4 | Lesotho | 10 | −3 | 12 | Eliminated |
| 5 | Rwanda | 10 | −4 | 11 | Eliminated |
| 6 | Zimbabwe | 10 | −7 | 5 | Eliminated |
South Africa had three points docked for fielding an ineligible player against Lesotho and still won the group by one point. Nigeria went through as one of the four best runners-up and beat Gabon 4–1 after extra time in the semi-final in Morocco. The CAF play-off final in Rabat on 16 November 2025 ended 1–1 after extra time, and DR Congo won the shootout 4–3. That means the Super Eagles missed back-to-back World Cups for the first time since 1994, despite Victor Osimhen scoring eight qualifying goals. Read more on the Nigeria national team players, the Super Eagles coach and Osimhen.
DR Congo then beat Jamaica 1–0 after extra time in the intercontinental play-off final on 31 March 2026, so Africa had 10 teams at the finals.
What It Means for Nigerian Fans
For Super Eagles supporters, the Group C standings told the story long before Rabat. Draws cost Nigeria the most: they lost only once in ten games but drew five, while South Africa won five. The goal difference was the best in the group, which shows how fine the margins were. The next target is the 2030 cycle, and the squad is already changing. Young players can break through fast at this level, as our Lamine Yamal profile shows. The women’s game gave Africa a lift this year too: see the AFCON Women 2026 review.
AFC (Asia): 8 direct places + 1 play-off
Japan, Iran, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Jordan, Australia, Qatar and Saudi Arabia qualified. Iraq came through the Asian fifth round and then beat Bolivia to take the last place. Uzbekistan and Jordan made their World Cup debut.
CONCACAF and OFC
Panama, Curaçao and Haiti won their final-round groups. Curaçao became the smallest nation ever to qualify. Jamaica and Suriname went to the play-offs but were eliminated. In Oceania, New Zealand qualified, and New Caledonia lost its play-off to Jamaica.
Intercontinental play-offs
| Path | Semi-final | Final (31 Mar 2026) | Qualified |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jamaica 1–0 New Caledonia | DR Congo 1–0 Jamaica (aet) | DR Congo |
| 2 | Bolivia 2–1 Suriname | Iraq 2–1 Bolivia | Iraq |
Why 48 Teams Instead of 32?
FIFA expanded the finals from 32 to 48 teams from 2026, which gave every confederation more places: Africa went from 5 to 9 direct slots and Asia from 4.5 to 8. The tournament now has 12 groups of four. The top two in each group and the eight best third-placed teams reach a new round of 32, so there are 104 matches instead of 64. In short, the 2026 World Cup qualifiers table decided who got into the bigger draw, not who reached the knockouts.

What Happened at the Tournament
The finals ran from 11 June to 19 July 2026, and the round of 32 started on 28 June. The group-stage table and round of 16 table are now history: Spain beat Argentina 1–0 after extra time in the final at MetLife Stadium, with Ferran Torres scoring in the 106th minute. England beat France 6–4 in the third-place match. Kylian Mbappé won the Golden Boot with 10 goals and Rodri was named best player. Who are the 16 teams left in the World Cup?
The 2026 World Cup is over, but the 16 teams that reached the round of 16 were Canada, Morocco, Paraguay, France, Brazil, Norway, Mexico, England, Portugal, Spain, the United States, Belgium, Argentina, Egypt, Switzerland and Colombia. Morocco, Belgium, Norway and Switzerland lost in the quarter-finals.
Which big teams missed the 2026 World Cup?
Italy were the biggest absentee: they lost the UEFA play-off final to Bosnia and Herzegovina on penalties and missed a third straight World Cup. Cameroon, Denmark, Poland, Serbia, Wales and Costa Rica also failed to qualify for the expanded 48-team finals.
Who has qualified for the Club World Cup 2026?
Nobody, because there is no men’s Club World Cup in 2026. The first 32-club edition was held in the United States in June and July 2025, and Chelsea won it. FIFA plans to hold the expanded tournament every four years, so the next edition is due in 2029.
